WHAT IS ROSE WATER? THE ESSENTIAL MULTI-FACETED AROMA

Rose water, also known as rose hydrosol, is a versatile ingredient that has been used for centuries in various fields, including cosmetics and baking. Let’s discover together the secrets of this precious essence.

Traditional use

Women have long appreciated rose water for its beneficial properties for the skin. In many Arab countries, it is used both in cosmetics and in pastries. The famous gazelle horns, these delicious pastries, get their intense flavor from rose water.

Origin and extraction process

Rose water finds its origin in the careful distillation of rose petals. Here is how this magical process works:

  1. Distillation  : The rose petals are placed in a still. Under the effect of water vapor, two precious liquids are formed:

    • Rose essential oil  : Light, it floats on the surface.
    • Rose flavored water  : Denser, it is at the bottom.
  2. Choice of origins  : Today, we carefully select our rose water, favoring varieties mainly from Iran, Bulgaria and Morocco.

The homemade recipe for rose floral water

Would you like to create your own rose floral water at home? Here is a simple and authentic recipe:

Ingredients :

  • 500 ml of water
  • 250 rose petals (or rose buds)

Realization :

  1. Preparation  :

    • Place the rose petals in a glass or copper jar with a heat-resistant lid.
    • Pour the 500 ml of boiling water into the jar.
    • Let cool for 12 to 14 hours.
  2. Filtration  :

    • First use a strainer to remove any large pieces.
    • Then, filter using cotton gauze or a cotton filter to remove impurities.
  3. Conservation  :

    • Transfer your rose water into a glass bottle, preferably fitted with a UV filter.
    • To extend its life, add 5% vodka-type alcohol to the preparation. Alcohol acts as a natural preservative.

Rose water, a symbol of delicacy and refinement, can now enhance your recipes and beauty rituals.
